Protecting the Workplace.

Retrofits for the Post-COVID-19 world.

Over the past several years, workplace design has promoted a more collaborative setting with lower physical barriers to achieve a more dynamic work environment. In preparing for a workplace post-COVID-19, our clients are discussing how to retrofit these types of open plan offices to protect employees during this unprecedented time.

EXPERT PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE

Empire has spent considerable time vetting the best possible solutions in the market today that can help towards providing a healthy and safe working environment. We have fine-tuned a list of products based on current availability, lead time and cost. We can work alongside a client’s design firm to align these products to fit the exact solution and layout of a client’s workplace.

RETROFIT STRATEGIES

When there is no design firm involved, Empire can provide a turnkey approach to help assess a company’s workplace to determine a path forward for safely bringing employees back into the office. We will use a floor plan and furniture typicals to develop a short- and midterm strategy. Once the plan is completed, a budget can be developed and implemented for retrofitting the space.

While we may be just at the beginning, we’re already starting to see some best practices and future-thinking insights developed for how our workplaces can and should be adapted to ensure we can all get back to work while ensuring a healthy and safe environment.

PROTECTIVE BARRIERS

Partitions made from non-porous/wipe-able surfaces can be installed to the front and sides of the work surface to safely separate individuals.

Additional distancing measures can be taken in both the short- and long-term to encourage distancing, such as increased storage between users, planters to partition off a walkway or area, floor decals to signify new protocols and even increased desk size.

INFECTION CONTROL

Controlling the spread of any illness by ensuring the virus cannot be transmitted through surface contact is critical. Antimicrobial surfaces/elements added to existing products, such as arm caps on chairs and deskpads on work surfaces, is a simple day-1 change.

As are wellness stations, where employees and visitors have easy access to hand sanitizers, wipes, gloves and masks.

A long-term view of this may include swapping out fabrics on soft seating to a more bleach cleanable option such as vinyl.

RETROFIT STRATEGIES

For clients who are not presently engaged with a design firm for retrofitting services, we can help determine what changes are needed to reopen your workplace with COVID-19 health and wellness considerations. We will develop short- and mid-term solution recommendations using as much existing product as possible.

HOW IT WORKS

1

ASSESSMENT OF CURRENT

  • Examine existing floorplan: workstation size, aisle corridor width, entry points, etc.
  • Determine where issues exist in light of COVID-19 health and wellness concerns
2

STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT

  • Short- & mid-term strategies that offer flexible and semipermanent adjustments to the space and products in addition to new protocol
    suggestions
3

RECOMMENDATIONS

  • New product checklist presented for approval
  • Individual products specified based on unique needs
  • Product is then ordered, delivered & installed
